At the 6th Annual Lecture of SWAAYA Limited, publishers of The Freedom Online, held on February 27, 2025, in Lagos, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State addressed Nigeria’s ongoing governance challenges. Represented by former Deputy Governor Tele Ikuru, Fubara identified key issues such as public accountability deficits, weak institutions, and citizen passivity as primary obstacles to effective governance. He emphasized the symbiotic relationship between leadership and followership, asserting that active civic engagement is crucial for the emergence of credible leaders. Fubara called for political parties to prioritize candidates with integrity and competence, urging a collective effort to foster a culture of ethical governance and civic responsibility.
