– Nigeria’s climate action reporting initiatives
– Biennial Transparency Report and National Communication
– UNFCCC reporting and climate data strategies
The Nigerian government has begun preparing its Second Biennial Transparency Report (BTR2) and Fourth National Communication (NC4) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). These reports aim to enhance the nation’s climate action tracking and data-driven strategies.
Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe, Director General of the National Council on Climate Change Secretariat (NCCCS), emphasized that this initiative will strengthen institutional frameworks for effective data flow and high-quality reporting.
Nigeria has previously submitted three National Communications, two Biennial Update Reports, and its first BTR in December 2024. The current effort seeks to address gaps identified in earlier reports, including data collection from relevant institutions and quantifying climate resilience achievements.
