– Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones in Nigeria
– Agricultural industrialization initiatives in Nigeria
– Job creation through agro-industrial hubs
On April 8, 2025, Vice President Kashim Shettima initiated the construction of Phase 1 of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in Kaduna State, marking a significant step in Nigeria’s agricultural industrialization efforts.
This project aims to transform agriculture through innovation, private-sector investment, and strategic public partnerships. SAPZs are designed to create agro-industrial hubs that integrate farmers with processors, reduce post-harvest losses, and expand rural economic opportunities.
The first phase includes Kaduna, Kano, Kwara, Cross River, Imo, Ogun, Oyo, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Vice President Shettima emphasized that the SAPZ initiative addresses longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain, such as poor infrastructure and limited market access, and is expected to generate thousands of jobs, particularly for the youth.
