The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) welcomed students from Israel’s Ben-Gurion University and Nigeria’s UNILAG for a study tour on urban sustainability.
LAWMA’s Initiatives
– Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, LAWMA’s CEO, highlighted efforts to integrate waste collectors into formal systems and reduce environmental impact.
– The “Last Man Collector” initiative supports informal waste workers, with 5,000 scavengers registered at Olusosun dumpsite.
– Plans are underway for an upcycling center in Otto to train youths in sustainable waste management.
