Six Nigerian states—Kaduna, Kogi, Sokoto, Kano, Adamawa, and Bauchi — have launched new polio immunisation campaigns targeting children under five. The efforts, part of the 2025 National Immunisation Plus Days and African Vaccination Week, aim to boost vaccination rates and eradicate the disease.

Kaduna’s past vaccine hesitancy has shifted, with greater community acceptance following awareness campaigns. In Kogi, house-to-house vaccination drives have started, while Sokoto’s First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu, led the launch encouraging parents to vaccinate their children.Kano State, with support from UNICEF and WHO, is pushing for full coverage to combat recent polio cases. Adamawa aims to immunise over 1.4 million children, and Bauchi’s traditional leaders are promoting vaccine uptake.

These intensified campaigns mark Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to eliminating polio and improving child health outcomes.
