Endangered Species Protection Nigeria
Wild Africa Fund Initiatives
On World Wildlife Day 2025, observed on March 3, the Wild Africa Fund emphasized the urgent need for substantial investment in conservation efforts to protect Nigeria’s iconic species. Festus Iyorah, Nigeria’s Representative at Wild Africa, highlighted that species such as lions, elephants, chimpanzees, and gorillas are on the brink of extinction. Notably, Nigeria’s elephant population has declined by 99%, with only about 300–400 individuals remaining in the wild. Iyorah called on the Nigerian government, private sector, and conservation organizations to bolster support for wildlife conservation initiatives. He underscored that without immediate investment, species loss would accelerate, leading to devastating consequences for both nature and economies reliant on natural resources. The Wild Africa Fund is actively leveraging various media platforms, including radio, TV, billboards, and public service announcements, to promote awareness and action towards wildlife conservation in Nigeria.
