Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s funding appeal
Climate change initiatives and wildlife conservation in Nigeria
Challenges of loans versus grants for environmental projects
The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) is actively seeking grants to bolster climate change initiatives, combat illegal wildlife trafficking, and enhance conservation efforts across Nigeria. Dr. Joseph Onoja, NCF’s Director-General, emphasized the critical importance of securing grants over loans, noting that high-interest loans impose significant burdens on developing nations. He stated, “Our lives depend on the environment. It is essential for us to care for it, so it can, in turn, care for us.” Dr. Onoja also highlighted the necessity for Nigeria to ensure proper utilization of received grants and called for increased stakeholder involvement to raise awareness and curb illegal wildlife trafficking.
