The Federal Government plans to deploy drone technology to enhance agricultural productivity and enable year-round farming, according to Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security. Speaking to State House correspondents on January 14, Kyari emphasized the efficiency of drones in farming operations.

“Drones can handle tasks like land clearing, harvesting, and chemical application faster than hundreds of workers in a day. This technology will fast-track agricultural activities and prepare land for the next cultivation cycle,” Kyari stated.

He highlighted the ministry’s plans to partner with the private sector to empower young, vibrant farmers through its mechanization program. Kyari stressed the importance of shifting farmers’ perspectives toward treating agriculture as a viable business.

“Agriculture is no longer just for sustenance. It’s a business that can generate livelihoods. We aim to engage farmers in ways that attract private sector funding to drive production,” Kyari explained.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to modernizing the agricultural sector, fostering economic growth, and ensuring food security.
