– Why transparent process matters in market relocation plans

On September 22, 2025, the Lagos State Government held a meeting with stakeholders of Computer Village in Ikeja to discuss their planned relocation to Katangowa, Agbado-Oke Odo. Mr. Gbolahan Oki, Permanent Secretary in the Office of Urban Development, said the relocation initiative stems from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive that the process be transparent and inclusive. Key plans for the new site include development of an ICT and Business Park with facilities such as hotels, banks, recreation centres, parking lots, police and fire services, and good access roads. The goal is to move away from unplanned expansion within Ikeja—trading on the streets and blocking drainages—and towards a more orderly business environment.

Traders, represented by the Iyaloja of Computer Village, Chief Abisola Azeez, expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the new site could enhance market potential and offer better opportunities for both sellers and customers. Government officials including the General Manager of the Lagos Urban Renewal Agency and the Coordinating Director of the State Building Control Agency were present, underscoring the state’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of relocation are clearly communicated and realised.
