GreenEarth Conservation Impact and Awareness Initiative (GECAI), led by Fatai Ilesanmi, has called on the Nigerian federal, state, and local governments to adopt and enforce more robust policies on environmental protection and climate action. The NGO, which focuses on raising awareness and fostering sustainability, emphasizes that climate and environmental threats affect communities differently, often hitting the most vulnerable hardest. In a recent statement, Ilesanmi highlighted education, grassroots involvement, and policy reforms as essential to safeguarding ecosystems and achieving resilience.
Their work spans several areas: they conduct school outreaches, webinars, and interactive workshops to build environmental literacy; they campaign for the restoration of degraded ecosystems; and they push for better regulation and implementation of environmental laws and climate change strategies. GECAI also aims to bridge the gap between local knowledge and scientific research to ensure policies are both informed and practical.
