NAN Reporter Among Biodiversity Reporting Fellows

  • – Environmental Storytelling for Sustainable Development

A reporter from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has been selected alongside nine other journalists for the Biodiversity Reporting Fellowship organised by the Dataphyte Foundation. The programme, launched in 2025, is aimed at enhancing environmental journalism in Nigeria by providing intensive training on data-driven reporting, investigative techniques, and solutions journalism. Participants are expected to focus on critical issues such as species extinction, deforestation, climate change, and sustainable land use, with the ultimate goal of bridging the gap between research, policymaking, and public awareness.

The organisers explained that the fellowship is designed to empower journalists as key advocates for environmental protection, ensuring that biodiversity and conservation challenges receive broader media attention. Coming at a time when Nigeria faces threats from flooding, habitat loss, and climate change, the initiative is expected to generate impactful stories that can drive policy reforms and inspire communities toward sustainable practices. By spotlighting biodiversity through evidence-based reporting, the fellows are positioned to strengthen climate change awareness, improve environmental storytelling, and hold institutions accountable for conservation commitments.
