- – Iyekhei Zone Says Gully Erosion Damaging Lives, Infrastructure, Yet Overlooked by Edo Govt
– Allegations Grow That Political Loyalty Doesn’t Translate to Erosion Relief
– Youths Demand Equitable Intervention Across All Affected Quarters in Auchi
Residents and youths of the Iyekhei Zone in Auchi, Edo State, have condemned the state government under Governor Monday Okpebholo for what they call deliberate marginalisation, following the governor’s inspection of gully erosion sites that excluded their community. Speaking for the group Auchi Dynamic Youth Iyekhei Zone, Chairman Oseni Osigbemhe Alidu expressed outrage that Iyekhei—despite being one of the areas hardest hit by erosion, which threatens lives, homes, property, and vital infrastructure—was omitted from the official site inspection. The group insists this oversight sends a message of neglect, especially to a community that has purportedly been steadfast in political support since 2023.
While expressing gratitude for earlier government responses to calls from Auchi Youth Council to address erosion in the wider Auchi area, the Iyekhei community stressed that partial action is insufficient. They are urging immediate government intervention—specifically in their quarters—and are calling for equal attention and resources for all affected zones. They have also affirmed their commitment to peaceful advocacy as they demand government recognition, equity, and protection from environmental threats.
