– Federal Government Urges States, Agencies & Partners to Deepen Environmental Oversight
– Minister Emphasises Nature-Based Solutions, Ecosystem Restoration & Inclusive Policies
– Renewed Hope Agenda Aligns with Green Economy, Circular Economy & Clean Cooking Goals
The Federal Government, through the Minister of Environment (Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal) and other officials, has reiterated its commitment to enhancing environmental governance, calling for stronger collaboration with state governments, civil society, international partners, and private sector stakeholders. At events such as the Abuja City Environmental Sustainability Summit, the government has highlighted key environmental programs being pursued under its Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Great Green Wall initiative, ecosystem restoration, sustainable nature-based solutions, circular economy strategies, and the national clean cooking policy. These are positioned not just as environmental priorities, but as foundational for more just, equitable, and resilient growth.
Officials are emphasising governance reforms that integrate environmental laws, improve monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) mechanisms, and ensure inclusive participation—especially involving women, youth, and vulnerable communities—in decision-making. They are also calling for stronger enforcement of existing environmental regulations, more consistent data and institutional capacity, and alignment of policy with international climate and environmental commitments. The goal is to translate policy ambition into measurable outcomes: cleaner air, restored ecosystems, reduced pollution, and stronger adaptation to climate change impacts.
