– Clean Stove Design Improves Health, Cuts Smoke, and Preserves Enugu’s Fragile Soil
– Federal Government and Women’s Groups Urged to Embrace Sustainable Cooking Tech
In Enugu, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) introduced the Save80 clean cookstove, developed by Atmosfair and produced in Nigeria. The climate-friendly stove—now being promoted with two stainless pots and a “wonder box”—is estimated to reduce firewood usage by up to 80%. NCCC Director-General Salisu Dahiru emphasized that the initiative can help curb deforestation, protect local ecosystems, and shield women from harmful smoke exposure.
Speaking at a sensitization event for Southeast women, Dahiru explained that the stove’s efficient design reduces indoor smoke, preserves health, and prevents soil erosion— especially significant in Enugu’s vulnerable terrain. Ambassador Faruk Yabo, Chair of Atmosfair’s Advisory Board, noted that the stove is built with durable technology—lasting over 10 years under rugged, daily use—and reiterated the importance of adopting smart climate tech at the grassroots level.
