Akinola Bashiru, leader of the Justice Forum in Alimosho Local Government, Lagos State, has urged the government and parents to support youth involvement in agribusiness. He noted that youth engagement in agriculture, combined with technology, can greatly improve productivity and food security.
Bashiru spoke at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ipaja with the theme “Ensuring Food Security for a Sustainable Future: Youth Participation & Home-Grown Farming.” The event, hosted by Jimoh Olatunji, representative of Alimosho 1 Constituency in Lagos State House of Assembly, drew traditional rulers, security agencies, and political leaders.
He highlighted that youth involvement in agriculture boosts rural development. “Youth engagement is vital for food security. Young farmers quickly adopt modern techniques, explore new crops, and use technology to strengthen the sector,” Bashiru said.
He also pointed out that tech-savvy youths could bring innovations like precision farming and market apps. These tools enhance productivity and efficiency in farming.
The event emphasized the importance of youth-driven initiatives to create a more sustainable agricultural future for Nigeria.
