The Managing Director of the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority (SRRBDA), Abubakar Malam, has provided assurance that the Goronyo Dam remains safe, with water releases occurring strictly in accordance with the authority’s monthly action plan. This statement comes as a response to public concern over potential spillovers following heavy rainfall forecasts by NiMet.Through inspections of the dam’s infrastructure—including embankments, spillways, and water passages—no threats to lives or properties were detected. While downstream siltation, aggravated by human activity and climate change, is impacting water discharge capacity, Malam emphasized that daily release operations remain steady and reliable, especially for farmers, fishermen, canoe operators, and state water boards.

He further linked the ongoing maintenance and safe operation of the dam to the broader objectives of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at bolstering sustainable agricultural production and economic growth across the region.
