At the 2024 African Energy Week in Cape Town, Osa Igiehon, CEO of Heirs Energies, delivered a compelling vision for Africa’s energy trajectory. He posited that the continent’s future shouldn’t hinge on choosing between traditional fuels and renewables, but rather on harmonizing both through a pioneering “AND strategy”—a model that blends hydrocarbon strengths with renewable technologies to meet Africa’s distinct energy challenges.
Igiehon spotlighted the company’s Brown Field Engineering (BFE) approach, a trailblazing method that boosted production from mature assets by 110%, enabling substantial output growth without new drilling. He also emphasized that African firms can rally international investment by leaning into their competitive advantage in low-carbon–intensity projects such as strategic gas monetisation.
