President Bola Tinubu has officially commissioned a new 40,000 cubic metre (CBM) Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel named MT Iyaloja (Lagos) in Ulsan, South Korea. The event, attended via the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, marked a pivotal expansion in WAGL Energy Limited’s fleet under the NNPC/Sahara Group joint venture.
As a fully refrigerated, dual-fuel LPG carrier, this launch boosts WAGL’s total LPG vessel capacity to 162,000 CBM, strengthening Nigeria’s ability to deliver clean energy domestically and across the continent. Other vessels in operation include MT Africa Gas, MT Sahara Gas, MT BaruMK, and MT Sapet.
NNPC Ltd. Group CEO, Bashir Ojulari, emphasized that the vessel will play a critical role in enhancing LPG affordability, availability, and access nationwide. WAGL’s Managing Director, Mohammed Sani Bello, also revealed plans to further expand the fleet within two years with a Small Gas Carrier and a Very Large Gas Carrier (VLGC).
The vessel’s name honors the legacy of Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji, with the ribbon-cutting conducted by her granddaughter, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo—the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria.
