The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day forecast predicting rain and thunderstorms nationwide. Moderate morning showers are expected across northern states—including Jigawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, and Borno—progressing to storms later in the afternoon and evening. The central region, covering the FCT, Niger, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Kogi, may see intermittent rains and flood risk, while the south is forecast to transition from cloudy mornings to afternoon showers in states like Oyo, Edo, Delta, and Lagos.
NiMet is urging residents in flood-prone areas to activate emergency plans, secure outdoor items, avoid driving in heavy rain, unplug electronics during storms, and keep a safe distance from tall trees. The agency also recommended farmers avoid fertilising before rain, dress warmly at night, and for airlines to obtain airport-specific weather data.
