Around 200 young changemakers gathered at De La Salle University on August 11, 2025, to celebrate International Youth Day, embraced by the iconic Filipino phrase, “kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” Organized by the UNIDO Country Office with Clean Air Asia and BAN Toxics, the event—“Mobilise & Ignite Youth Action: Advancing Sustainable Solutions for the Triple Planetary Crisis Through Innovation and Partnership”—placed youth at the forefront of driving solutions to climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
Highlights included:
– Youth Talks, featuring innovators like Ramyr Angeles, co-founder of Mobility Vision+(promoting sustainable urban mobility), and John Sherwin Felix, a photographer-activist raising awareness on food biodiversity.
– Interactive social media zones, empowering participants to create and share digital content through the Your Reel, Your Role: Be the Solution! contest.
– Two distinct Solutions Lab workshops: Harnessing Youth Potential in E-Mobility, focused on how young people can pursue careers in electric transport. A workshop centered on reducing mercury in healthcare waste, backed by UNIDO’s GEF-funded projects in partnership with BAN Toxics and DENR-EMB. This gathering underscores how Filipino youth are stepping up not just as stakeholders but as creative leaders in shaping a sustainable future.
