The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day nationwide weather alert, starting this Monday and extending through Wednesday, warning of widespread thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rainfall, and potential flash floods in many parts of the country. In the northern region, morning thunderstorms are expected across states like Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, Yobe, and Bauchi, while conditions may intensify by afternoon with heavy rainfall and strong winds in areas including Bauchi, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno.
Residents in the central region are forecast morning thunderstorms in Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, FCT, and Niger, with moderate rainfall spreading into Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and Niger into the afternoon and evening. The southern states will see cloudy skies and light morning precipitation in Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, building into moderate to heavy showers by afternoon across areas including Oyo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, and Bayelsa. Strong winds may precede storms, and NiMet strongly urges precautions: secure loose items, avoid driving during heavy rains, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from exposed trees or flood-prone areas.
