The Petroleum Environmental Solid Minerals Degradation Awareness Association (PESMDAA) has installed a new leadership team in Yobe State, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Engr. Mustapha, on behalf of the National Chairman, praised the state government, security agencies, and civil society for their inclusive support, stating that this leadership transition “marks a recommitment to our national goals of ecological preservation and climate resilience.” The group outlined plans to collaborate closely with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) to standardize operations across all 774 LGAs and launch afforestation campaigns to restore green cover.

Yobe’s Commissioner for Environment, Abdullahi Isyaku Guda, highlighted the urgent need to tackle environmental degradation caused primarily by illegal mining, which threatens farmlands, contaminates water, and undermines local economies. The new PESMDAA executives committed to rolling out community-based initiatives including training environmental task forces, partnering with the military and police for enforcement, and advancing eco-friendly governance. With a broader strategic vision, the association aims to strengthen transparency, foster ecological stewardship, and model effective environmental action in regions most impacted by climate change and resource depletion.
