The United Kingdom has reaffirmed its strong commitment to inclusive green growth and sustainable development across Africa, highlighting recent investments and partnerships aimed at advancing climate resilience and low‑carbon innovation. The UK High Commission in Nigeria emphasized backing for initiatives like protecting Cross River State’s endemic gorillas and strengthening climate‑resilient farming through the Propcom+ programme. A flagship outcome is the £8.5 million boost to the African Development Bank’s Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), designed to stimulate private-sector funding for renewable energy and clean cooking solutions.

Further supporting Africa’s climate agenda, the UK pledged an additional £1.62 billion to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), affirming its role as one of the largest contributors. The High Commissioner, Dr. Richard Montgomery, emphasized that this substantial funding will help vulnerable countries like Nigeria transition to low-carbon economies while generating jobs and safeguarding food security. In parallel, the UK’s Manufacturing Africa programme has steered significant investment into clean mobility, exemplified by MAX Nigeria’s $31 million e‑mobility expansion—with over 21,000 drivers empowered and 52 tons of CO₂ emissions cut. These initiatives reinforce UK priorities under its Plan for Change aligning trade and development efforts with climate and sustainability goals.
