The Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) is intensifying efforts to bolster local content and foster strategic partnerships to drive Nigeria’s sustainable energy transition. At the 2025 Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC), PETAN Chairman Engr. Wole Ogunsanya emphasized the association’s commitment to securing \$1.5 billion in contract awards for indigenous companies in Shell’s $5.5 billion Bonga North deepwater project. He highlighted that PETAN members, representing 60–70% of Nigeria’s local content capacity, possess the expertise to execute major projects across the oil and gas value chain, including deepwater operations.

In addition to advocating for increased local participation in large-scale projects, PETAN is collaborating with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to eliminate intermediary roles that inflate project costs. The association has introduced the PETAN Seal of Quality to ensure indigenous service providers meet global standards, thereby enhancing competitiveness. Furthermore, PETAN is developing a regional local content e-portal to consolidate opportunities and capacities within Sub-Saharan Africa, promoting regional integration and collaboration in the energy sector.
