The European Union (EU) has pledged more than €300 million to support a range of development initiatives in Nigeria’s Northwest and Northeast regions. This commitment is part of the EU’s broader €900 million Global Gateway strategy aimed at fostering sustainable development across Nigeria.
Key Initiatives Include:
Education and Youth Empowerment: An investment of €40 million is allocated to enhance basic education and empower youth in the Northwest, with an additional €5.4 million dedicated to teacher training and capacity building.
Sustainable Energy: A €37 million program aims to expand access to clean and efficient energy solutions, contributing to Nigeria’s green economy transition.
Healthcare Services: €45 million is earmarked to improve reproductive, maternal, and child health services, particularly in underserved areas.
Social Protection and Reintegration: The EU will provide €46 million to strengthen social protection systems and €20 million to support the disarmament and reintegration of former Boko Haram combatants in the Northeast.
Agriculture and Food Security: A €29 million investment focuses on promoting climate-smart agriculture to boost food security and resilience among farming communities.
These initiatives are designed to address the root causes of insecurity and underdevelopment in the targeted regions, fostering long-term stability and prosperity.
