On April 23, 2025, the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, in partnership with Adidas and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), unveiled the “Sports for Climate Action” online training course. This initiative aims to assist sports organizations—from local clubs to international governing bodies—in adopting sustainable practices to mitigate their environmental impact.

The course is part of Adidas’ “Move for the Planet” campaign, which seeks to leverage the influence of sports communities to promote sustainability and climate action. The training offers interactive modules, including videos, quizzes, and practical activities, designed to educate participants on reducing carbon footprints, organizing eco-friendly events, and engaging fans in environmental initiatives.

UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell emphasized the role of sports in driving systemic change, stating, “Through Sports for Climate Action, we encourage sports organizations to take meaningful steps—whether by making events more sustainable, reducing their carbon footprint, or using their platforms to inspire fans and communities.”

The “Sports for Climate Action” course is accessible online and is a significant step toward integrating environmental responsibility within the global sports sector.
