On April 20, 2025, a tragic accident at the Gubi Dam Water Treatment Plant in Bauchi State resulted in the deaths of four workers during a routine maintenance operation. The victims—Shayibu Hamza (48), Abdulmalik Yahya (29), Jamilu Inusa (29), and Ibrahim Musa (42)—were residents of Firo village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area. They were performing sludge cleaning in one of the plant’s tunnels when they were overcome, possibly by toxic fumes or oxygen deficiency. Despite immediate medical attention, all four were pronounced dead at the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi.
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the incident and emphasized the urgent need for heightened safety measures and strict adherence to operational protocols across all public institutions. He directed a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and assured support for the bereaved families.
