On April 17, 2025, security agencies in Rivers State commenced engagement with communities in Gokana Local Government Area to protect pipelines and critical national assets from vandalism. The initiative, directed by the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), involves the Police, Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju emphasized the importance of community collaboration in safeguarding these shared resources, encouraging residents to provide credible intelligence to prevent potential attacks. Security agencies have established communication channels to address residents’ concerns and align their grievances with ongoing security operations. Prof. Gospel Kpee, Sole Administrator of Gokana LGA, affirmed the community’s commitment to partnering with the government to maintain peace and security in the area.
