– Nigeria’s Petrol Import Reduction
– Local Refining Boosts Fuel Supply
– NMDPRA’s Role in Energy Security
Nigeria has significantly reduced its daily petrol imports from 44.6 million litres in August 2024 to 14.7 million litres by April 13, 2025, marking a 67% decrease. This achievement is attributed to a 670% increase in local petrol production, driven by the gradual restart of the Port Harcourt Refining Company and enhanced output from modular refineries. Despite this growth, national petrol supply has remained above the government’s 50 million litres per day consumption benchmark.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) continues to issue import licenses aligned with national supply requirements, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to protect and maintain the country’s oil and gas infrastructure.
