– Solar Power in Healthcare Facilities
– Yobe State Infrastructure Development
The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated the first phase of a 400kW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare delivery and promote renewable energy adoption in the country.
Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, represented by Permanent Secretary Alhaji Mamuda Mamman, highlighted that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Electricity Act 2023, emphasizing decentralized renewable energy solutions for critical infrastructure.
The solar plant is expected to provide reliable, clean energy for essential hospital operations, including surgeries, medical equipment usage, and vaccine refrigeration. Plans are underway to scale the project to 1MW and replicate similar interventions nationwide.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana, expressed gratitude for the federal intervention, noting that the hospital’s expansion from 250 to 750 beds necessitates stable power supply. The solar plant will also support the Senator Mamman Ali Maternal and Child Health Complex, which houses advanced medical facilities.
