Vice President Kashim Shettima has emphasized the urgency of addressing global climate change, reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to combating environmental challenges. In his keynote address at the symposium titled “Intersecting Works of Climate Change, Mangrove, and Art,” held on March 6, 2025, at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos, Shettima underscored the necessity for collective efforts to tackle climate issues.
Represented by Mrs. Rukayat El-Rufai, Special Adviser to the President on National Economic Council and Climate Change, he highlighted that climate change is an immediate reality impacting all sectors. Shettima called for innovative collaborations, stating that the symposium’s theme encourages stakeholders to “think outside the box and work together in new ways.”
He stressed that climate crises transcend borders, affecting nations globally, and thus require unified solutions. Despite geopolitical tensions and economic challenges, Nigeria remains committed to international climate agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, advocating for ambitious global climate actions.
