– Public health risk from untreated sewage in Lekki
– LSWMO takes action against environmental pollution
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) sealed Myca 7 Court, Van Daniel Estate, Off Orchid Road, Lekki after it was found to be pumping sewage into public drains. The enforcement followed multiple public complaints about the estate’s use of pumping machines to discharge wastewater into drainage channels, a move deemed by the government as both an environmental nuisance and a danger to human life. The state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, reaffirmed that deliberate acts of pollution will be sanctioned under the relevant laws.
The closure is part of ongoing efforts by Lagos State to enforce safe sanitation standards and prevent the spread of disease via poor waste discharge. Authorities have emphasised that such practices contravene the Environmental Management and Protection Law (2017) and warned that all property owners must use licensed sewage desludgers and properly managed septic systems to avoid similar penalties.
