A coalition of NGOs and media professionals—Social and Economic Justice Advocacy (SEJA), Web of Support Youth Development Program Nigeria, and Advisors Reports.Com—has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to put an immediate stop to gas flaring in Ubeji, a satellite community in Warri South LGA. They claim the constant emissions and pollution from the nearby petrochemical works have been affecting air quality, destroying the environment, and forcing many residents to flee.

The group also called for urgent and coordinated actions to address the health impacts and environmental degradation, plus compensation for those harmed. They emphasised that residents’ rights to health, a livable environment, and education are being compromised, and urged both federal and state authorities to act without delay to restore normalcy to Ubeji.
