– Expansion and Dredging of Waterways Among Measures to Prevent Future Flash Floods
– Citizens Urged to End Illegal Waste Dumping in Canals, Water Channels
On September 13, 2025, hours of torrential rain triggered severe flooding in Iwo, Osun State, causing widespread property damage and personal losses. Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed deep sympathy for those affected and confirmed that the government is intensifying its flood prevention efforts. Already in motion are measures such as dredging waterways (including Aiba) and expanding drainage channels to improve water flow. The governor also instructed the Commissioner for Environment to carry out on-the-spot assessments to determine the full scale of damage and craft lasting solutions.
In addition to infrastructure interventions, the state government is calling on residents of Iwo and greater Osun to play their part in preventing floods—particularly by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse into waterways, which exacerbates blockages and overflow. Governor Adeleke assured the public that state resources are being mobilized to support affected families and that the government is committed to safeguarding lives and property going forward.
