– Rite Foods and Pop Beach Club Lead Massive Plastic Cleanup Campaign
– 30,000 Recovery Bags Distributed to Empower Lagos Residents
– Plastic Waste Turned Into Jobs, Games, and School Supplies via Circular Programs
In a bold stride toward environmental stewardship, Rite Foods Limited successfully extracted 40 tonnes of plastic waste from the Lagos metropolitan area as part of its Plastic Free July initiative. The effort—coordinated under the award-winning Riteonthebeach campaign in partnership with Pop Beach Club and supported by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs—unfolded through community events at Ikeja City Mall, where more than 30,000 recovery bags were distributed to residents to encourage active participation in plastic collection and recycling. This initiative builds upon Rite Foods’ consistent beach clean-up efforts, reinforcing the company’s commitment to forging a circular economy
Employees of Rite Foods went beyond coordination—personally collecting and sorting plastics, recovering 288 kg of post-consumer PET bottles, which equivalently prevented 293.76 kg of CO₂ emissions in July alone. Managing Director Seleem Adegunwa emphasized that this movement embodies a lasting lifestyle change aligned with Lagos State’s vision of a sustainably clean and healthy environment. Meanwhile, Ekuma Eze, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, reiterated that responsible recycling isn’t just an action—it’s a responsibility. He highlighted how this campaign protects ecosystems, fosters recycling innovation, and safeguards waterways, while also generating opportunities for coastal communities through trade-in programs that support underprivileged schoolchildren with educational supplies.
