On August 27, 2025, Nigeria held a high-profile validation workshop in Abuja for its updated climate blueprint—Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 Under the theme “Driving Ambition, Strengthening Action and Aligning with the Paris Agreement and Global Stocktake”, the workshop convened government officials, development partners, and cross-sector stakeholders to finalize the document that will guide Nigeria’s climate action through the Paris framework.
The Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Mrs. Teni Majekodunmi, described NDC 3.0 as central to Nigeria’s climate strategy. She emphasized its alignment with the Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy (LT-LEDS) and the Energy Transition Plan (ETP), highlighting its ambition to build resilience, advance clean energy (solar, wind, hydro, hydrogen), and address financing challenges while ensuring a fair, equitable transition.
Speaking in support, UNDP’s Resident Representative, Varsha Redkar-Palepu, dubbed NDC 3.0 a “roadmap for green growth, climate justice, and sustainable development,” signaling UNDP’s committed partnership with Nigeria in mobilizing climate finance, strengthening institutions, and delivering gender-inclusive and resilient solutions.
