In a recent interview, Mukhtar Babayev, President of COP29, commended South Korea for its outstanding climate commitments during the summit in Baku. Amid global tensions and skepticism over pledged funding, he highlighted Seoul’s voluntary contributions—$300 million to the Green Climate Fund and a further $7 million to the Loss & Damage Fund—as exceeding expectations and reflecting “real climate leadership.”
Babayev emphasized that this gesture went “beyond what it is obligated to do,” setting a strong example for developed nations to honor and elevate their financial commitments.
