The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has launched a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s renewable energy curriculum across polytechnics and TVET institutions. This initiative—collaboratively developed with INCLUDE Knowledge Platform, GIZ, the Dutch government, and the House of Representatives—is modernizing the National Diploma in Renewable Energy and introducing new Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) and Solar Thermal Technologies.

The overhaul also includes updated National Occupational Standards (NOS) and follows rigorous validation by a Technical Working Group comprising policymakers, industry experts, and educators to align training with industry requirements. This curriculum upgrade seeks to address the severe skills shortage currently hampering Nigeria’s energy transition—particularly in decentralized solar and clean energy technologies. Enhanced training quality is expected to drive a capable workforce ready to support green energy growth and sustainable electrification efforts.
