At a May 2025 event, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced that 24 federal union campuses have already been outfitted with solar mini-grids under the Energising Education Project—using the President’s Renewable Infrastructure Fund. Highlights include the University of Abuja’s 3.3 MW solar farm, which powers campus facilities consistently, day and night. The Rural Electrification Agency further revealed that these efforts have delivered over 100 MW of clean power, benefiting more than 600,000 students and 50,000 staff.
Dr. Alausa stated that eight more universities have signed on for the project’s next phase, confirming the government’s goal to see every federal tertiary institution equipped with renewable energy generation by 2027—ushering in cleaner, more resilient campus power systems nationwide.
