On International Youth Day 2025, the Eco-Citizen Ogoni Initiative (ECOI), a coalition of green NGOs, unveiled its Eco-Volunteer Portal—a digital platform designed to recruit and empower 560,000 youths across Ogoniland as “Global Green Marshalls.” The portal ([www.ecocitizenogoni.org] will mobilize these volunteers across 56 wards in four Local Government Areas, supporting ECOI’s ambitious goal: planting 560 million mangrove trees by 2035 to restore a critical coastal ecosystem.
This movement is more than an environmental campaign—it’s a social and economic transformation. ECOI projects that up to 500,000 green-blue economy jobs will emerge from this initiative, spanning clean energy, regenerative agriculture, eco-enterprises, aquaculture, sustainable transport, and ecosystem restoration.
