The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a three-day weather advisory, warning of widespread thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across Nigeria from Monday through Wednesday, July 21 to 23, 2025.

Key highlights by region:

  • – Northern Nigeria: Expect early morning sunshine and clouds, followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms in states such as Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kano, Yobe, Kaduna, Sokoto, and Jigawa.
  • – Central Region: Mornings will be cloudy, progressing to thunderstorms and moderate rains later, especially in Plateau, FCT, Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, and Benue.
  • – Southern Nigeria: Morning cloudy skies may bring light showers in coastal states like Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, intensifying to moderate or heavy afternoon and evening rains in states such as Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Delta, Rivers, and Edo.

NiMet also cautioned that strong winds may precede the storms. Residents are advised to:

– Avoid driving in heavy rain
