At the 2025 Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) in Lagos, Shell engineers were awarded the 1st Place Technical Paper Award for their presentation on the novel use of Perforated, Wash, and Cement (PWC) technology in deep-water well abandonment. The team—including Augustine Okosun, Osehojie Ojeh‑Oziegbe, Oluwatobilola Aribike, and Oladokun Adubi—was recognized for demonstrating how PWC can deliver effective zonal isolation and prevent fluid migration, offering significant cost and time savings compared to conventional methods. This technique was deployed for the first time in deep-water Nigeria during the Bonga field midlife plug-and-abandonment campaign in Q2 of the previous year.
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) emphasized that this recognition highlights the company’s culture of technological excellence and commitment to environmentally sound and cost-efficient operations, reinforcing its position as a leader in operational innovation
