– LASEPA targets dirty transport for cleaner air

According to the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), the transport sector—particularly older, high‑sulphur vehicles—contributes the lion’s share of air pollution in Lagos, making it the single largest source of smog in the city. LASEPA has noted that vehicular emissions top national emission inventories, overtaking industrial fumes and generator smoke as the leading health hazard.

In response, the agency is ramping up initiatives under the Eko Clean Air and air‑quality monitoring schemes. These include expanding real-time monitoring stations across the city, launching public awareness campaigns, enforcing cleaner vehicle standards, and piloting hybrid bus systems to reduce on-road emissions—aiming for a more breathable future for Lagosians.
