The Regional Green Economy Forum (RGEF) 2025, held in Tangier, Morocco under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, convened over 500 delegates including mayors, youth activists, policy makers, and business leaders to shape the next phase of Africa’s urban climate agenda .
The Forum culminated in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration, a continent-wide commitment to integrating carbon neutrality into city planning, mobilising climate finance, and promoting inclusive public-private partnerships. It also launched the Cities Carbon Neutral Initiative, aiming to support 11 pilot cities—including Chefchaouen, Nouakchott, and Jinja—in transitioning toward climate-resilient, low-carbon urban development through knowledge sharing and innovation.
