At the 48th Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition on August 4, 2025, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reaffirmed its mandate to drive innovation across the upstream oil and gas sector, emphasizing decarbonisation, emission reduction regulations—including gas flaring and methane limits—and strategic regulatory reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act for clearer investor guidance and operational accountability.
Speaking virtually at the same event, Bayo Ojulari, Group CEO of NNPC Limited, called on African nations to lead their own energy transitions, rooted in local context and justice. He stressed that technologies like carbon capture, smart grids, hydrogen, AI-enabled exploration, and modular gas systems must be harnessed alongside hydrocarbons to ensure energy access and net-zero alignment—a future built through regional cooperation, strong governance, blended finance, and investments in STEM and youth empowerment.
