The Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), set to convene from September 8 to 10, 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” is designed to assert Africa’s role as both a frontline responder and solutions provider. Co-hosted by the Government of Ethiopia and the African Union Commission, the summit is structured around two strategic pillars: promoting Africa-led climate solutions and unlocking scalable climate finance.

Amid mounting climate risks—including record-breaking heat in 2024 and escalating crises in the Sahel, Horn, and Central Africa—ACS2 seeks to bridge a persistent financing gap. Africa faces underfunding, with only 18% of mitigation needs and 20% of adaptation needs met, and merely $30 billion received between 2021–2022 against a $3 trillion requirement by 2030. The summit will reinforce commitments from the 2023 Nairobi Declaration, advocate for reform of global climate finance mechanisms, target 300 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, and elevate early warning systems, adaptation, and green industrialisation as continental priorities.
