The Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development (SRADev Nigeria) has officially inducted students from Anthony Senior High, Ajao Estate Junior High, and Eko-Akete Junior & Senior High schools as Zero-Waste Ambassadors in Lagos. Following a six-month intensive training program, selected youths were unveiled during a launch event at Ajao Estate. Dr. Leslie Adogame, Executive Director of SRADev, explained that the initiative builds on Lagos State’s solid waste management efforts by embedding zero-waste practices in schools and communities—encouraging source segregation, material recovery, and collaboration with waste pickers.

Working in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the ambassador program distributed color-coded bins—green for organic waste, blue/yellow for recyclables, and red for non-recyclables—to pilot schools. Dr. Essien Nsuabia of LAWMA underscored the benefits of zero waste: reduced landfill burden, resource conservation, and energy savings. Participants emphasized the project’s ripple effect—students will cascade the waste reduction message to homes and neighborhoods, supporting Lagos’s goal to scale this model statewide and turn the city’s waste crisis into an opportunity for circular economy innovations.
