Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through a range of strategic policies that promote renewable energy, efficient waste management, and consumer education. Speaking at the 2025 Chief S. I. Edu Memorial Lecture, Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu outlined initiatives including the Lagos Integrated Energy Resource Plan, a renewable energy transformation project, and clean‑energy expansion aimed at increasing solar uptake and improving electricity supply to critical infrastructure. He emphasized that meaningful impact requires collaboration and called on private sector players, civil society, and academic institutions to join hands in building a greener Lagos that aligns with Sustainable Development Goals and circular economy principles.

On enforcement and ecosystem protection, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources—led by Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab and LASEPA officials—warned that environmental laws will be upheld through intensified actions against noise pollution, waste dumping, and encroachment on wetlands and drainage channels. Recent tours to sites like the Savage/Elegbata drainage channel revealed community-level infractions, prompting coordinated responses and sanctions. During the 2024 Walk for Nature, Wahab also called on Lagosians to respect ecosystems, preserve mangroves, and support ongoing afforestation projects like the Lekki Conservation Centre. He reinforced that sustainability hinges on both individual responsibility and multisector partnerships .
