The NNPC/Shell “Vision First” outreach in Mushin Local Council, Lagos, delivered transformative eye care services, with more than 2,000 residents benefiting during the five-day event. The medical team conducted 245 eye surgeries—including 198 cataract removals and 47 pterygium procedures—alongside 1,652 general health consultations, nearly 2,000 laboratory tests, and dispensed medications to 1,863 patients. Testimonials flooded in, with beneficiaries like Ademola Joshua expressing deep gratitude: “Now I can see my beautiful wife again… my sight was restored to normal,” after receiving free cataract surgery that would have otherwise cost about N1.4 million.

Since launching in 2022, the Vision First programme has reached over 6,000 people, performed more than 400 vision-related surgeries, and distributed over 2,000 prescription glasses in Lagos alone. Speaking on the impact, Shell Nigeria’s MD Ronald Adams remarked that the initiative is a core component of their long-term social investment strategy, launched alongside deep-water oil production, emphasizing that “vision is an important part of life.” With backing from NNPC and partnered co-ventures, Shell is committed to continuing these high-impact health interventions.
