A total of 170 recent graduates recently completed the NCDMB/PETAN/SPDC‑backed graduate internship programme, where they gained hands-on experience working with local technical oilfield service companies in both upstream and downstream sectors. The latest cohort of 49 interns, who began the two-year scheme in 2022, just graduated in Port Harcourt. The programme, set up in 2014 and later strengthened by the involvement of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, has been widely praised for its impact in upskilling local talent and advancing Nigeria’s content goals in the oil and gas sector.

Significantly, 133 out of the 170 interns have secured full-time employment with the companies where they trained—highlighting the initiative’s success as a pipeline for skilled manpower. At the graduation ceremony, PETAN Chairman Wole Ogunsanya commended the Shell Petroleum Development Company‑led collaboration for enhancing technical expertise and supporting the UNESCO ‘Education for All’ and UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region.
